GPAJ Vice President and KPC Councilor, Ambassador Tadamichi Yamamoto, Advocates for a Redefined Pax Americana at the Tokyo Conference(05/03/2025)

On March 4, 2025, Ambassador Tadamichi Yamamoto, Vice President of the Global Peacebuilding Association of Japan (GPAJ) and Councilor of KPC, participated in a panel discussion at the Tokyo Conference organized by Genron NPO at the Tokyo Prince Hotel. Ambassador Yamamoto advocated refining the concept of “Pax Americana” to align with the current international landscape and build a more multilateral and inclusive world order.

As the world undergoes a significant transformation, marked by increasing multipolarity and interdependence, the traditional concept of “Pax Americana” is being questioned in terms of its effectiveness and relevance. Drawing upon his extensive experience as a diplomat and as the former Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Ambassador Yamamoto pointed out the end of unipolar dominance by the United States, the rise of new powers such as China and India, the increasing importance of the Global South, and the crisis of multilateralism.

Furthermore, he offered concrete proposals for the international community’s path forward, advocating for a new international order based on dialogue and cooperation rather than unilateralism based on power.
